VanLife FAQs: Where do you poop? 💩

QUESTION:

Where do you poop?

ANSWER: Outside, in your yard.

But really, as I said, I visit friends and family often so, either there, or anywhere.

A lot of restaurants, grocery stores, hardware stores, gas stations, rest stops, & hotels have bathrooms that are open to the public for most of the waking hours of any given day.

That being said, a lot of those establishments eventually do close...often and inconveniently during the late night hours where a vehicle dweller might be searching for some last minute relief before parking for bed.

What do you do when you're driving around and you or your copilot desperately needs to go potty, there's no walmart within reasonable distance, McDonalds "open late" is referring to their drive-through window, which you shouldn't pee or poop in, and you don't have a bathroom or composting porta-potty in your rig?

I mean I've heard about these buckets but...yea no ew gross.

In my experience, above all else, hotels have been the best bet for this task.

Hotels are everywhere.

Most hotels are open 24 hours.

The bathrooms are typically easily accessible in the lobby.

It's nearly impossible for the staff to determine if you are already a guest or not at the hotel.

Always remember your community.

Don't be a slob. Don't leave a mess.

Where do you leave your big jobs? Or even your tinkles and driblets?
